April 2: World Autism Awareness Day

Mark your calendars... April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day!

Did you know…

* Autism affects as many as 1 in 150 children and 1 in 94 boys
* Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the world
* More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with diabetes, cancer, & AIDS combined
* Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism
* There is no medical detection or cure for autism, but early diagnosis and intervention improve outcomes
* Autism does not discriminate by geography, class, or ethnicity

April 2nd is also the kick-off date for our Walk Now for Autism walking group! Last year our team raised nearly $2,000.00 for autism research. This year, we're hoping to raise even more! Info coming soon!

DS's New Shirt!

I saw this shirt at Walmart over the weekend, and I had to buy it for our little "Energizer bunny"!

More than a couple parents and therapists laughed when they saw DS wearing it at therapy this morning... I think most parents can relate!

SCARY!

Is this pic scary or what?

She's like exorcist-baby or something!!

A Great Read...

I started a new book a week or two ago... and it has really been so inspiring for me. I highly recommend it for all parents (and grandparents, relatives, siblings) of children with special needs.

I've realized (though I'm sure I knew it all along) how much I've "lost" myself recently. Taking care of the kids and being so preoccupied in all their therapies and meetings and such... although they are still my main focus, I need to find some time for myself. I joined Weight Watchers (again unfortunately) and signed up for a sewing class. I've also gone shopping quite a bit to try to find some new clothes for myself (something I never would have done before). I actually threw away all my flannel pajamas which (I'm ashamed to admit) had become my everyday clothes rather than just sleeping clothes.
It's a really great book... hopefully I'll find time to finish it soon!

Weight Watchers Week #1

Whoo-hoo! Down 6.4 pounds this week!

Hopefully announcing each week on here will keep me accountable!

Edited: The geek would like everyone to know that he leg-pressed (whatever that is) 750 pounds at the gym on Friday! He's not quite on board with WW yet... but he's working out, so that's a start!

Sorry...

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. Sick kids, lots of meetings, lots of therapies, and just an all-around busy week!
DD is off next week for spring break... hopefully I'll get an opportunity for some great pics and a few posts!

What Do You Do All Day?

Someone emailed me this joke... I thought it was hilarious! I've been asked this question on more than one occasion... and yes, there have been days that I've wanted to ignore it all!

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.

Proceeding into the house, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room, the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went.

He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"

She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?"

"Yes," was his incredulous reply.

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

Let Me Sleep!

DD slept in really late on Sunday (11am), but when I went into her room to get her, she seemed awake and ready to face the day! I brought her out to the living room, went to make her breakfast, and five minutes later... she was back asleep in her bed!
SO, we waited another hour (now... it's roughly noon), and we wake her up again. However, five minutes later... we found her asleep in her brother's bed!

I think she wanted to sleep!!!

Bring On The Caffeine!

I've had to resort to coffee this morning! DD was up until 4am on Sunday night; DS was up until 5am last night. I AM TIRED! I feel like I have newborns again!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

Happy 27th birthday (yesterday) to my brother! I hope you had a great day!
